- When I'm in Portugal, I have an obsession with oil pastels! The vibrant vivid colours of oil pastels are the best medium to reflect the brightness of Portugal. A trip to the market with all it's array of brightly-coloured parasols and awnings not to mention the trays of gaily-coloured goods all at the same time harmonising and clashing, just beg me to capture them in my art. Oil Pastels are so beautiful and so good to work with and a real challenge to get the finer lines and small details. Oil Pastels brilliantly depict the fact that the Algarve is bathed in bright sunlight.
