- Sometimes Venice just gets so very, very uncomfortably warm and here, I've used many pinks and reds to depict the blazing heat of summer days in Venice. The warm skies ablaze with the light of the brilliant sunshine, seems to warm up the whole place and give it a radiance absent in our colder climates. The red and white stripes of the gondoliers tops and the red ribbon of their boater hat blends wonderfully in with the whole warmth of the scene. The black of the gondolas and the green shadow the black makes in the water, provide a welcome and cooling contrast to the heat of the scene. I painted this with smooth acrylics and mostly with broad brushes but finished off with fine acrylic brushes.
